Lane is sick

Lane is sick so I'm letting her do pretty much whatever she wants today. She had a very high fever this morning and a very fast heartbeat so I took her right the dr. He said its a "flu like" virus. The fever causes the fast heart beat. No strep though thank goodness. It's only 11:30 and she's changed her outfit three times, had candy, soda, chic fil a and a new toy. (the current outfit is a mesh of two different outfits) Whatever makes her happy today goes. (within reason) She did ask to see Monte Dog...the min pin that Gerald's parents have.....in Mississippi.

Shiny on the other hand is just drooling away, cutting her two bottom teeth, happy as can be

We went to wal mart today and it was pretty cold so I put Lane's hat on but she chose the sunglasses and fur coat. Someone at wal mart said she looks like she belongs in Hollywood. That wasn't what I was going for but after I looked at her I laughed because she did kind of look like that.

I love the way Lane talks. She's certainly not as clear speaking as some two year olds but easier to understand than some I guess. Lane and I went to an air show in Lafayette to see the Air Force Thunderbirds. Lane loved it but crashed when the Thunderbirds started their performance. She even slept through the afterburner fly-bys. Had a great time.

The kids and I went to Wal-Mart today and I let Lane pick out her Halloween costume. There was a cute little witch, pirate, lady bug and my favorite, Minnie Mouse. I kept encouraging Minnie mouse and she kept pointing to the ninja and football player. So I held them both up to her thinking she would change her mind and she points and yells football! I again said what about Minnie mouse? And she finally said NO MOUSE!

She had to try it on as soon as we got home.

This was the Beach Club club house. Salon, steam room, indoor/outdoor pool, great restaurant, full gym (um who cares on vacation right?) Nice, even though I just ate a lot of food there and laid by the pool.

This picture is why people need to go on vacation. Forget your desk, messy house, checking email, etc.

My afternoon hour all to myself. I laid by the pool, people watched (my favorite thing) and eaves-dropped on others' conversations while sipping virgin daiquiris. Perfect.

Cheyenne is just a happy camper most days. Look at that face!

A year ago yesterday, August 18, at 1:10 am our little whipper-snapper was born. I can't believe our little Lane is now 1. Although we might have to save for five years or more, Bali has always been somewhere I have wanted to go. My sister Amy and bro-in law Dennis just back from there and I have seen some of the video as well as the pictures and I don't know about you, but have you ever just seen pictures of someplace and felt such a strong pull to want to actually be there and see it for yourself?

The pictures are fantastic and the customs they have told me about but I want to hear the sounds and smell the smells and hear the music for myself. I've always thought the Hindu religion was incredibly interesting. I mean no disrespect to refer to it as simple but it seems (what little I know) simple yet reverent and respectful and just being the best person you can be. How bad could it be?

The colors in the photos are so rich and vibrant it's really beautiful.

Only problem is Maka the girl is only two I think so she's still pretty hyper sometimes. CLEANING OUT THE POOL

Nathan and I made a hardy attempt at cleaning up around the pool area and the plan was to actually get in the pool and push the little bit of dirt near the pump but needless to say I had to jump in first. Nathan said if you do a cannon ball in then I will. Well... don't double dog dare me because I'll do it. Did I mention the water was 52 degrees? So he kept his word and I took a video so I could post his girly scream. The plan was to get in wet suits today and finish cleaning it but no dice because the weather is nasty today but hopefully tomorrow we can finish it up. Lane was just chilling looking at us like we were nuts but at the same time looking totally and utterly bored until she saw me carrying on like a fool when I got out of the freezing water then she thought that was pretty funny. Darby came by to stick her toe in and that was plenty for her! O

I sewed and I have the pictures to prove it!!!!

(however, Amy and my mom in law did the rest. Amy is an avid quilter and my mother in law can sew, knit, tat, well actually I haven't discovered anything she can't do yet. She like a woman Macgyver. Anyhow, it's not quite finished because she has these adorable little cats to embroider on it but it's just lovely even how it is in my opinion. It might get so cute that it will just explode with cuteness when she's done with it. Or I'll want it for myself and Lane can borrow it from time to time.

What I got for Christmas

For Christmas what I really wanted was for us to try not to spend a lot... Especially on eachother. In keeping with our agreement I got Gerald some clothes that I had special one day coupons for. I ask for a slowcooker thinking that would be s reasonable gift. Gerald manages to find a $100 dollar slowcooker. I've never even seen one that expensive. But after I took it out, it's huge. Lane fits in it!

Today I went grocery shopping at Albertson's. I usually go to Wal-Mart because it's cheaper and closer but it's been such a mess lately with the holidays and plus Albertsons has this lettuce I really like. I'm halfway done shopping and I go through the greeting card/impulse buy area and there is this little Saints bib that was cute but it looked really big and had a snap instead of velcrow so I put it around Lane's neck to see how big the gap was between her chin and the bib because she gets milk everywhere when she eats. I'm kind of looking at it deciding and this older black female employee walks up to me and says what are you doing? At first I didn't even know what she meant but then I realized she must be talking about the bib. So I smile and politely say I was just trying it on her a second to see if was going to be too big. She says but you haven't purchased it yet. I said no I haven't, but I'm not trying to steal it or have her wear it around the store. She said well this isn't a place where you try before you buy...it's a grocery store. So I smiled and said sarcastically you are absolutely right. I'm sorry. So I took it off and put it up (when I had intended to buy it). I walked three steps and then my temper bell when ding!

So needless to say I blessed her out and told her manager that she was a nasty hateful woman and that I wouldn't buy any of their junk ever again! And I left my cart there and told her that since she was the grocery store police she could put all my junk back on the shelf.

Then I went to Wal-Mart. So I did my food shopping and then I went to the Christmas section and was buying lights and other decorations. As I was going through my mental checklist about what I need to accomplish today I was thinking. Bought Christmas stuff...check. Need to go home and order temple clothes......pause.....not checked. Then I start busting out laughing. Bless out perfect stranger, buy Christmas decorations, order temple clothes. Something is wrong with that sentence. Then I thought, maybe I should go apologize to her. Then I thought....I aint THAT sorry. When will I ever learn to turn the other cheek.

Crying it out

This past week I have noticed that Lane has become very aware of me and crying when she doesn't fall asleep in my arms. I always said that if she's changed, fed, burped, and warm I would let try to let her cry herself to sleep if I knew she was tired. Easier said than done. I tried it today after I knew she was sleepy. I had been holding her for awhile and she was pretty much asleep but not in a deep sleep but every time I put her down even if I'm in sight, if she's tired she needs me to hold her to go to sleep now. This just developed this past week. Before she would go in the swing drowsy and just fall asleep. So I decided 10 minutes was a reasonable amount of time before I checked in her. I put her in her crib go in my room shut the door so I can't hear and wait. I come out to quiet so I go in and peek without her seeing me and she's awake but hasn't even started crying and her eyes looked sleepy so it seemed promising. I waited a few minutes then I heard her start. I gave it 10 minutes from that point. She screamed for 13 solid minutes before I said okay enough is enough. I picked her up and she immediately stopped. I comforted her and she fell asleep in my arms about 5 minutes later. So my plan is to let her cry a little when she's just exhausted but I will come in to comfort her if it's over ten minutes and my theory is that she will learn I'm still there and coming back and it's okay to not fall asleep in my arms. The thing is, I noticed a pattern for a whole week of her needing to be held by me for at least 15-20 minutes to fall into a deep sleep. I think that's a little to needy especially if I'm still in her sight. What do all the moms think and be honest it won't hurt my feelings. I'm just trying to do what's best for her without her getting to the point where she will only fall asleep with me holding her and nobody else...not even Gerald. Yesterday, it had to be me not even him. Before I picked her up and immediately after. Comments please.

Tonight we had our church trick or treat/Fall Fest/Talent Show and my mom and stepdad are down visiting. When we got home I had a fit of the giggles like I haven't had since college. Gerald even peed his pants a little. We got started talking about people and then impersonations inevitably followed and then EVERYHING is funny and I end up getting tickled all over again at telling my cat he can't have a mint milano. This weekend all of Geralds family came for Lane's blessing and now they have all left except Amy and Dennis. I'm a little melencholy because even though it was LOUD and crowded at times with all 17 of us, I miss everyone being together. Now I'm laying in bed wondering how I got so lucky to be a part of this family AND have my own sweet little girl.

Last night I went to bed at 8 because I was feeling a little cruddy like getting a cold. Ger just had one so we have been sleeping separate to avoid myself and Lane getting it. So... Ger woke up with Lane all night and gets up this morning and first thing out of his mouth (keep in mind his hair is going every direction) I didn't get any sleep last night. I must be evil because I felt a little surge of glee. But let me clarify why... When I have been up with her and say I'm really tired he says well you HAD to have had some good sleep. Plus, you can go back to sleep when I go to work. I guess he thinks a crew of laundry fairies, toilet scrubbers, etc. Swing by when he's at work. Just funny that's all.
